Kinex ARE NOT Ear Pieces!

Earlier this afternoon, Riley came downstairs crying. All I knew was that his ear hurt and he was freakin' out! Finally, I was able to get it out of him that he had stuck a Kinex in his ear while playing army.....great.

Drove to meet Jim (who was working of course). He tried to get it out, but nothing...went to an immediate clinic which wasn't very immediate AND they couldn't get the thing to budge:

Do you think he's reconsidering ever putting something in his ear again?!?

With the wasted trip to the immediate care, we ended up at a local ER....not fun on a full moon. (they should make a website like thepeopleofwalmart.com)
After waiting forever in an ER full of sick and battered people, we finally got into a fast track room....here he's looking pretty calm and collected....but once the Dr. came in and started messing with him, he screamed bloody murder!
They ended up papoosing him down...had 2 nurses holding his head while I held his strapped down arms and we got it out!

Riley...are we ever going to do that again? NO!
Here's a very blurry picture of the piece...it's only about a 1/4 of an inch....I wonder how many Kinex sets we would have been able to buy with the amount it cost us to get this puppy out?!?

Da Apron

Well, it took me all day Friday to sew 3 aprons.....making the pattern, calling my grandma to figure out how to ruesh (?) the middle section and then all day fighting with the bobbin!!!!

Each apron used just under a yard of the green fabric and 1/2 yard of the brown. I just folded an apron in half and drew out the pattern on freezer paper, making the top a little bit wider (but on pretty petite Amber, I needed to go back and finagle it a bit shorter). ETA: for the straps I just eye balled it...I think I used 24" x 4" for the neck strap....folded in half, sewn with a 3/8's seam and then ironed the heck out of it. Did the same for the 2 back ties except cut on the fold of the fabric 36" (total) x 6". The neck and waist trim was fumbly, but I didn't know how else to do it...2" piece measured to just over the length needed, ironed in 1/2 and then halves folded in. For the waist band I then opened the first fold and ironed it flat so that I'd have a wider band, but no open seams. I am in no way an expert or even a good seamstress....just made it do....it's an apron anyway, it's just meant to get dirty!

All in all, I think they turned out pretty decent! (in the background is Amber's mom who was making us breakfast for Amber's birthday!!! Mmmmm gotta love a good southern breakfast!......isn't her kitchen the cutest?!?!)

Dustin' Off My Sew Macheeen Baby!

I have a love/hate relationship with my sewing machine....I love all the cool projects I see, but I hate hauling it out, plugging it in...taking over my already cluttered dinning room table!

A family friend is getting married on Saturday and my mom and I are helping with the reception. I decided apron's would be a good thing....now if only we could find pretty ones! There are tons of them out there in blog land....lots of books and patterns for sale, but I don't want to spend $$ on something I think I can figure out myself...hopefully....PRAY that I can figure it out!!!

I'll post pictures later of the finished product.....now I'm off to try and make a hot mess...or is that a bad thing?!?!? :)
