Does anybody remember Sweating to the oldies? Seriously, who could forget?!?
This morning, I found something even better---sweatin to the Spirit! Halfway through my 40 min on the treadmill, when I'm sweating, hurting...wanting to just give up and slow the speed down...something happened....a switch flipped. Like usual, I had music going, but usually we can't get the local Christian station in our bedroom so I've been rocking out to the "classic" rock station. This morning it seemed like at that 15 min mark every song just hit me! There I was crying, singing, sweating....clearing all the junk that I've been holding onto for the last few weeks...really, I'm sure that I looked like more of a freak than Mr. Crazy Hair Short Shorts on those Oldies tapes! (thank God that Jim had taken the boys with on an errand)
One of the songs that got the ball rolling was Casting Crowns' I Will Praise You In This Storm....
I was sure by now, God, you would have reached down and wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day, but once again..I say Amen..and it's still raining. As the thunder rolls, I barely hear you whisper through the rain "I am with you". And as your mercy falls, I raise my hands and praise the God who gives and takes away.......I lift my eyes unto the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
I remember meditating a lot on that Psalm while watching the sun rise over these beautiful mountains....My help comes from you Lord....no matter what...
I'll put the rest of the songs on my playlist. Maybe someone else will be comforted by the reminder that gratitude and praise is the best medicine for a hurting heart!
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
